The Costume Fund for Giselle

Through the years, American Ballet Theatre’s Costume Fund has dressed the most celebrated characters in classical dance. Giselle, Nikiya, Kitri: the leading ladies of ABT’s roster now have restored costumes as elegant as the ballerinas who portray them. But the costumes of the Court, Count Albrecht, and the Toreadors demand as much attention and care as those of their more well-known counterparts.

For the past 32 years, Barbara Matera Ltd. has created, restored, and repaired nearly all of ABT’s beautiful costumes. This year, they have generously supported our production of Giselle by donating the costume of Bathilde in loving memory of Jennifer Alexander, our beloved corps de ballet member who passed away in December. In recognition of Barbara Matera’s extraordinary gift, this year’s Costume Fund will support the renewal of the costumes of the remaining members of the Court.
