American Ballet Theatre’s Costume Fund has dressed the most
celebrated characters in classical dance. Giselle, Nikiya, Kitri:
the leading ladies of ABT’s roster now have restored costumes
as elegant as the ballerinas who portray them. In the spring of
2003, ABT launched this new initiative dedicated to the restoration,
replacement, and archiving of our amazing costumes. The Costume
Fund aims to restore and replace those costumes whose fabrics and
intricate designs have faded and become more delicate with the passage
of time. It is these costumes that transform the dancers into their
legendary roles. The disintegration of these fragile works of art
is not only regrettable, but also impedes the ability of the dancers
to perform.
